FAQs
Welcome to the FAQ page for Transition in Moving. Here, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions about our services, processes, and what you can expect when working with us.
We’ve been where you are. Our company was founded by two women who personally experienced the emotional toll of helping their grandparents move and managing their belongings after they passed. We built Transitions In Moving to give other families the kind of help we wish we’d had—trusted, kind, and practical support during life’s hardest moments.
We work with:
• Seniors preparing to move into a retirement or long-term care home
• Families managing a move or estate after a loved one passes
• Executors and Power of Attorneys responsible for personal belongings
• Long-term care and retirement homes needing help with room clear-outs
• Out-of-town family members who can’t be physically present
At Transitions In Moving, we provide comprehensive, hands-on support to help make difficult life transitions easier for seniors, families, and care homes. Our role is to take the stress off your shoulders—whether you're downsizing, moving into care, or managing a room or estate clear-out after a loved one passes. We handle the details so you can focus on what matters most.
Depending on your needs, we can:
• Sort and organize belongings with care and sensitivity
• Pack items for moving, storage, donation, or delivery to family members
• Coordinate with moving companies or transport items ourselves
• Set up your new space, making it comfortable and familiar
• Clear out rooms or entire homes within tight timelines (including the 24-hour LTC mandate)
• Connect with family members, care facilities, real estate agents, or legal representatives
• Rehome, donate, or dispose of unneeded items responsibly
• Offer guidance, emotional support, and referrals to grief or caregiver resources if needed
No matter the situation, our approach is always grounded in respect, discretion, and compassion. We’re here to help you make decisions, carry the physical and emotional load, and ensure the process feels manageable—from start to finish.
We understand the urgency that comes with room clearance requirements. In Ontario, LTC facilities often require rooms to be emptied within 24 hours of a resident's passing. We are experienced with these timelines and do our best to provide same-day or next-day service, depending on availability. Contact us as soon as possible—we’ll walk you through every step.
We work with families to respectfully sort, distribute, rehome, or dispose of belongings. Items may be:
• Returned to family (locally or shipped)
• Donated to local charities or shelters
• Recycled or responsibly disposed of if necessary
• Stored short-term if decisions need more time
We always prioritize sentimental value, family wishes, and ethical handling of every item.
